Annie’s Project to empower women in agriculture

CARTHAGE, Ill (WGEM) – Women throughout the Tri-States have an opportunity to develop their agricultural information beginning in February in Hancock County.

Annie’s Project is a six week dialogue based mostly course that brings women and native consultants in from throughout the area to discuss manufacturing, funds, advertising and extra.

The venture relies on Annette Kohlagen Fleck who grew up in Northern Illinois in the early 1900′s and labored to assist her farmer husband whereas taking up academic tasks on her personal.

Classes in the Tri-States are being led by the University of Illinois extension workplace, who rotates the lessons every year via the completely different counties in the area.

Local meals and small farms educator Katie Parker mentioned the lessons are a terrific likelihood for women to community, study and develop collectively.

“I think that women are becoming more involved in agriculture and getting more involved on the farm, and so this is a great opportunity for women to learn more about some of those basic concepts or record keeping, agri-business topics, that are important to use on the farm,” mentioned Parker.

Hancock County Farm Bureau Manager Kristin Huls, a former attendee of Annie’s Project and a speaker on the lessons, echoed these sentiments.

Huls mentioned the additional information gained via the course can actually assist women join with the rising variety of different women in agriculture.

“Women play a huge role in agriculture both on the support role side, but also these days we’re seeing many more women take an active role in agriculture. Everything from helping with harvest, driving machinery, doing bookkeeping, helping in marketing those crops,” mentioned Huls.

The lessons might be held each Thursday between February third and March tenth on the upstairs convention space in Marine Bank in Carthage. The lessons might be held in the evenings (from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.) with gentle meals supplied.

The value to attend is $50, however Parker mentioned monetary help is offered if wanted.
