Friends of the Desert Mountains was lately awarded the Environmental Connections por Vida grant throughout the Anderson Children’s Foundation’s annual grant awards distribution. The $10,000 grant will go in the direction of funding Friends of the Desert Mountains’ youth education program.
The Anderson Children’s Foundation gives funding to charities, nonprofits, church buildings and colleges in the native space. The basis has awarded greater than $18 million in funding to packages that help native youth since 1993. Friends of the Desert Mountains was one of the organizations that acquired a portion of the grant funding, totaling $1 million, for 2022-2023 awardees.
The Friends of the Desert Mountains Youth Education Program has been offering outdoor education to elementary school-aged youngsters for the previous two years. The outdoor education program’s goal is to get, “…children energetic and outside and interesting in scientific inquiry,” by implementing S.T.E.A.M, or Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math, curriculum whereas instructing college students about the Indigenous historical past of the native space.
