NEW ORLEANS (BRPROUD) – (*27*) Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says at the very least 2,523 fish and 96 other animals had been killed in an oil spill final month.
A pipeline owned by Collins Pipeline, a subsidiary of PBF Energy, spilled about 315,000 gallons of diesel gasoline into two ponds in St. Bernard Parish final month near the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet.
Another 169 animals have been captured for rehabilitation, practically 100 of that are alligators.
LDWF says of the non-fish animals killed 44 had been snakes, 33 had been birds, and 19 had been turtles.
LDWF says its at the moment utilizing ‘scare cannons’ to discourage wildlife from wandering into the affected space.
