This February, Modern Love opened its sixth faculty essay contest, asking faculty college students nationwide to inform the reality about love as we speak.
The final time we held this contest, in 2019, the world was a really completely different place.
This 12 months, with faculty life disrupted as by no means earlier than, college students shared tales of experiencing isolation, navigating id, managing psychological well being, returning to household, hooking up with hometown homebodies and discovering group in shocking locations.
Today, we’re happy to current one of the best of that writing, main off with our successful essay, “My Plea for a Sixth Love Language,” by Layla Kinjawi Faraj, a first-year scholar at Barnard College in New York City.
Stay tuned for our finalists’ essays, which we plan to publish all through May and June. You can learn the complete checklist of winners right here.
Deep because of everybody who participated, and to our contest readers, Danya Issawi and Emma Grillo!
