Maine invests $20 million to upgrade agriculture infrastructure


AUGUSTA, Maine (WGAN) Governor Janet Mills says her administration is making a $20 million funding to permit the state’s farmers and meals processors to upgrade tools.

The governor’s administration made the announcement Monday. The $20 million comes from the Maine Jobs and Recovery Plan, which itself makes use of $1 billion in federal funding from the American Rescue Plan Act.

The Agricultural Infrastructure Investment Program will present grants to Maine farms and meals processing companies. It goals to “increase production and storage capacity, enhance supply chain resilience, and drive growth within the state’s agricultural and food economy while enhancing production of Maine-grown foods.”

The state will start accepting purposes for these grants subsequent month.
