A significant federal grant is coming to the Flint Hills Nature Trail north of Emporia.
US Senator Jerry Moran has introduced a virtually $25 million grant from the US Department of Transportation to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. This will fund the Flint Hills Trail: Connecting Communities, Cultures and Landscapes challenge, together with drainage improvements, pipes, culverts, bridges, base improvements, limestone surfacing, fences, gates, security improvements and signage.
This will contain improvements to about 40 miles of the path and is designed to nearly end the practically 120-mile path that goes by means of Morris, Lyon and Osage counties within the KVOE listening space and goes from central Miami County west to Herington.
