ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) — Royal Oak metropolis commissioners are contemplating whether or not to outlaw wild animals as pets.
On Monday, commissioners mentioned the proposed ordinance at their often scheduled board assembly.
The proposal was created after African caracal cats escaped from their proprietor’s Royal Oak property on a number of events.
No motion was taken tonight.
City commissioners and town supervisor expressed considerations that the present language within the proposed ordinance could also be unclear, overreach and should affect wild animals that are not harmful. Some residents shared comparable considerations throughout public remark.
Sarah Ellison, who owns a boa constrictor requested rhetorically, “What makes a species inherently harmful?”
“I totally perceive why this transformation wants to be made. I 100% agree with it. What I do not perceive is why the proposed ordinance that goes again to outdated language in different cities,” she mentioned.
