ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s newly appointed agriculture minister Mahinda Amaraweera will propose to the cupboard that each one paddy/farm land which have remained uncultivated for a very long time be acquired and handed over to events keen to take up agriculture, the minister stated.
Warning of an impending meals disaster within the island nation, Amaraweera stated the federal government is taking steps to mitigate the disaster.
“Everyone, please get in the field, and grow [crops],” the minister stated on Sunday (29) talking to reporters.
Sri Lanka can also be attempting to expedite fertilizer provides, he stated.
“We have written to envoys of seven international locations asking for fertilizer.
“Discussions were also held with High Commissioner to India Milinda Moragoda about expediting the 65,000MT of fertilizer due from India. We’re also planning to ask for fertilizer, gas and oil from countries like Russia and Ukraine as well,” he stated. (Colombo/May30/2022)
