UDOT reveals how many animals used I-80 Parley’s Canyon crossing in 2021

PARLEY’S CANYON, Utah — The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) on Monday revealed how many animals used the I-80 crossing in 2021.

UDOT’s motto is “preserving Utah shifting,” and apparently that features the furry mates who name Utah dwelling, in addition to people.

The overpass helps wildlife get to the opposite aspect of Parley’s Canyon with out crossing the interstate.

UDOT stated confirmed crossings in 2021 included:

  • 706 animal crossings
  • 23 species together with 6 fowl species
  • 414 mule deer crossings
  • 54 coyote crossings
  • 27 porcupine crossings
  • 8 black bear crossings
  • 10 moose crossings

Video supplied by UDOT confirmed many of the totally different species of crossing the overpass in 2021.

UDOT screens the animal exercise with a number of cameras arrange alongside the overpass.

The crossing opened in December 2018. UDOT says it spans six lanes of interstate and was constructed to enhance security on I-80 by lowering wildlife and automobile collisions.

While it could be tempting to go to the bridge in an try to identify some critters, UDWR says to maintain off the overpass and never disturb the animals.
