UW–Madison alumna Dyani White Hawk receives $25,000 award

UW–Madison alumna Dyani White Hawk is the recipient of a 2021 award from the New York-based group, Anonymous is a Woman.

White Hawk earned her MFA from the School of Education’s Art Department in 2021. She is a visible artist and impartial curator primarily based in Minneapolis.

The awards are given yearly to 10 women-identifying artists over the age of 40. Each of the award recipients obtain an unrestricted grant of $25,000.

A lady of Sičangu Lakota and European American ancestry, White Hawk strives to create sincere, inclusive works that draw from the breadth of her life experiences, in line with her artist assertion. Her portray and sculptural works replicate cross-cultural experiences by combining influences from trendy summary portray and summary Lakota artwork kinds. In addition, White Hawk’s current work in efficiency, video, and pictures has centered on problems with Indigenous language, ladies’s rights, and the need of nurturing cross-cultural relationships.
